Chickens!

I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of keeping a few chickens in our yard.  Our lot is big enough to allow us a few and between Jack's love of finding eggs and Evie's love of anything bird-related, I'm sure they will be a welcome teaching and growing-up aid too.

I have no interest in starting a flock when the weather is still cold and wet, though (unless I happen upon some free chickens or another noteworthy enticement to get going right away)!  So I'll be waiting until spring to get the actual birds.  That way I can get through my learning curve while the weather is pleasant, and then be ready for next winter when it rolls around.  For now I'm reading up on chicken books from the library and eying the yard to decide on the best place for a coop!

Fall is Here

I have a few videos from the leaf raking today. Some of you might not know that here in McMinnville, you can simply rake your leaves into the street and the street cleaners will take care of them for you. :)

The videos are now linked from YouTube so that you can view them in full 720p resolution (for those of you that know and care what that means). :)

Jack started out raking them out of the tree:

Then after a little bit of a lesson was doing this:

Finally, the master makes his own piles and jumps in them:

Evie helped by playing with a plastic softball:
(Duck fans, please excuse the Stanford hoodie - Evie's grandma is an Alumna.)

Kindly ignore the ridiculous face. He was saying "peas!" in a very growly way. :) Jack is very excited about the peas coming from HIS pea plants. He has even ventured to eat a few, though he really doesn't favor crunchy, raw veggies as a rule!
