hilarious :)

xkcd.com, thanks. :)

maternity clothes that don't suck --hooray!!

Becca (my one-year-old niece) helped me pick this shirt out. I am looking off into the distance in a bizarre way because Alex sometimes takes a million years to actually snap the picture.... so I end up looking distracted and doofy. The shirt is the point of the picture, so kindly ignore the rest. :)

a sign of things to come?

Last night I was laying down with a pillow under my belly and tipped slightly forward in the process of getting comfortable. I was soooo comfortable and totally ready to fall asleep when I got this persistent little nudging (elbow? foot?) where my belly was hitting the pillow and bed. It just kept on nudging.... until I rolled backward a bit and made it so there was absolutely no belly-squashing. Then we were okay and could all go to bed.

I thought it was cute, right? :) BUT it seems to now be a determined trend. Any time something gives slight pressure into the belly, it gets a gentle but determined nudging until it goes away. Alex thought I was exaggerating so he just rested his hand there for a minute.... sure enough, he was told that was not okay. *bump, bump, bump* It's really pretty polite, just doesn't stop until the problem is taken care of.

My goodness, I can admire persistence, but I hope this determination is not entirely going to be a trend! I am not sure how to explain that it's only going to get more cramped from here on out!

one-second glucose update

The results came back and everything is fine. Woo! :)

helluva morning

I did the glucose test. It sucked.... Four needle sticks, and my left arm could only stand up to one, so now I have four holes in my right arm (one from the blood test last week that prompted this ongoing nonsense).

The good news is I didn't pass out or throw up despite having fasted for the night and then consumed 100 grams of glucose in five minutes (yes, that said what you think it did), and I am free to eat whatever I want now. (At least until I hear back on the test results!) Time for some meat and grilled veggies--I don't know if I'll ever want a simple carbohydrate again.

tummy, as promised

Here I am at 27 weeks on the nose. You'll notice that the gravitational pull of The Belly is causing the door in front of me to tilt off-kilter. Just wait until we tack on another month!

The Critter is big enough now that when I get a kick on one side, I usually get a corresponding ricochet-bonk on the other side.... Must be baby finding out there are actually walls in this increasingly snug/snuggly home!

My last doctor's appointment went totally fine, sort of. I am measuring at the right size and have a good weight and everything. I have had a few little things pop up, like the fact that I get puffy as a direct index to how humid it is, but it's all perfectly normal and manageable.

The odd part of the appointment was the blood test results afterward. I am low on iron (no shock there, considering that's a lifelong trend for me) so I am taking iron supplements now, but also I was just barely too high on my gestational diabetes test, which means I have to go back for Round Two of testing tomorrow. I will definitely post the results when I have them.

checking in

Alex and I had kind of a crazy (but enjoyable) time last week with his parents and brother in town for a visit, but that also means we've been rather busy--we thought it's worth mentioning that we're still alive!

I meant to post an update tonight, but got caught up on my other blog and need to go to bed now. I will come back tomorrow and post at least 3 things:
1) Some info on the Bowling invasion (AKA Alex's family visit)!
2) Update on the baby--we had a good doctor's appointment today.
3) It's about time for another picture of my big ol' belly, getting bigger by the day.

For now, good night!

Kung Fu Panda

We saw Kung Fu Panda the other day and, among other things, were both happily surprised at the fact that there was not a single fart joke in the whole movie.

Alex was the first to notice that the movie makers passed up several opportunities. Melissa was too busy goggling at the visual effects to notice details like absent fart jokes, but appreciated it in hindsight.

In short, we both liked it, which is a lot more than we can say about a LOT of recent movies. :)

Happy Birthday, Husband!

Alex's parents and brother got here for Alex's birthday yesterday, and we all went to this restaurant called The Old Salt, which is right down the street from us. I accidentally let slip that it was Alex's birthday right while the waitress was there, so it was no surprise when she showed up at the end of the meal with yummy ice cream cake and a song.

Incriminating picture to follow, as soon as I convince Alex to scan it in.

So Alex is now 27 with a baby on the way. What an old man, huh? :)

visitors

Alex's parents and brother are coming to town to visit this week! They arrive this afternoon. I still have a bit of work, as does Alex, but as much as we can we are going to escape and have a holiday week!

non-pregnancy

It was a nice day today, with lots of sun and everything, so there were all these girls parading around in teeny little shirts with their little bellies NOT sticking way out of their hems.... I started getting really irritable about it. Not that I'm bitter or anything, but I was getting really grumpy by the end of my shift.
